Landscape Noise, Pollution and Solutions Session & Workshop --Chevy Chase Village Hall

Saturday, September 28, 2019

An expert panel including Dr. Jamie Banks, Executive Director of Quiet Communities, and Chuck Elkins, Washington, DC ANC Commissioner and former  Director of Noise Control and Federal Air Pollution Control Programs at EPA, will talk about initiatives nationally and locally to move away from noisy and polluting landscaping practices, and why phasing out use of gas-powered leaf blowers improves our wellbeing and the health of the community. This information session is designed to help educate Chevy Chase residents about ways to reduce noise and harmful pollution associated with gas-powered landscape equipment and create a quieter, healthier environment for our community.  The event, open to all, is organized by the Chevy Chase Village Environment and Energy Committee and co-sponsored by the Town of Chevy Chase and Somerset. We will also be pleased to welcome Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, Maryland State Senator Jeff Waldstreicher, Maryland State Delegate Al Carr, our own Town Mayor Barney Rush, and Town Council members to this information session.  The Atlantic documented DC’s successful efforts to phase out gas-powered leaf blowers by January 2022.
