On October 20, the County’s Commission on Redistricting selected its preferred boundary map for the newly established 7 districts that will elect County Councilmembers in 2022, as compared to the current 5 districts. (The number of at-large Councilmembers remains unchanged at 4.) The map reflects that the Town and other nearby Chevy Chase communities will remain in the same district that includes Bethesda and Friendship Heights, as was requested in a letter to the Commission from a coalition of Chevy Chase municipalities. The Commission is required to complete its work and submit its plan and report to the County Council by November 15, 2021. Within thirty days after receiving the plan of the Commission, the Council is required to hold a public hearing on the plan.
