Memorial Day

Memorial Day Holiday

The Town office will be closed on Monday, May 30 in observance of Memorial Day. Household trash and yard waste will not be collected on Monday. Household trash will be collected on your next regularly scheduled trash day, while yard trash will be collected on Tuesday, May 31. Household organic waste will be collected on Wednesday, June 1.

7100 Connecticut Avenue 
Redevelopment 

On June 2 at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall and by Zoom video conference, the developers of 7100 Connecticut Avenue will present an updated concept plan for redevelopment of the former 4-H property.  The developers have considered the Town’s response to the initial redevelopment plan and have revised the plan to incorporate this feedback.

Volunteers Needed for Town Committees & Boards

Are you a new resident who is interested in parks, cut-through traffic, or special events? Are you a resident concerned about tree conservation, stormwater management, or potential housing changes? The Town Council encourages you to volunteer for a Town committee, board, or commission. No prior experience is necessary, just a willingness to spend one hour per week, on average, extending your talents, working with fellow residents, and improving our community.

Connecticut Avenue Corridor Study

The State Highway Administration conducted a needs analysis for MD 185 (Connecticut Avenue) between Chevy Chase Circle and MD 193 (University Boulevard). Residents are encouraged to review the study and provide input through a survey. 

Leaf Blower

Gas-Powered Leaf Blowers Banned January 1-October 14 

The use of gas-powered blowers is prohibited from January 1 through October 14. The Town Council approved this ban in response to resident concerns about noise and other impacts of this type of landscaping equipment. The regulations exempt gas-powered snow blowers and sprayers. Montgomery County noise regulations also remain in effect in the Town.

Battery-Powered Blower Rebate Program

The Town’s rebate program for the purchase of battery-powered blowers will end on June 30.  Residents may request a rebate for half the cost of a battery-powered blower and related equipment, up to a maximum rebate of $200 per household.

TOCC Book Club, June 6, 7 p.m., Lawton Center Conference Room

Our Town of Chevy Chase Book Club will meet June 6 at 7 p.m. in the Lawton Center Conference Room to discuss These Precious Days, a collection of essays by Ann Patchett.  She is not only a renowned novelist, but her essays portray a truly brilliant appreciation of life.  Join us for wine, snacks, and discussion!  

Disruption

Discussions & Desserts, June 9, 7 p.m., Town Hall

Aki Peritz, former counterterrorism analyst and Town resident, will discuss his latest book, Disruption, an account of the race to stop a terrorist conspiracy set in motion by an Al Qaeda operative following 9/11 that would have remade our world -- forever. Playdate

Coffee Meet-Up and Playdate in the Park, June 11, 3-4 p.m., Lawton Center Playground

Summer is right around the corner.  Come join your neighbors and other families for a cool beverage (iced coffee or lemonade), snacks, and conversation alongside the Lawton Center playground. New residents are especially welcome! Hope to see you there!  

Blood Drive

Woman’s Club of Chevy Chase Blood Drive, June 29, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., 7931 Connecticut Avenue

The American Red Cross & the Woman's Club of Chevy Chase are hosting a blood drive at 7931 Connecticut Avenue on Wednesday, June 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Register online at www.redcrossblood.org and enter Sponsor ID: "WCCC" or call 1-800-733-2767 to schedule your life-saving donation.

Chevy Chase at Home (CC@H) Events

Chevy Chase At Home (CC@H) is a non-profit organization that helps local seniors “age in place.”


Town to Transition to Electronic Forecast Newsletter

In September 2022, the Town will transition the monthly Forecast newsletter from paper to email.  We encourage all residents to sign up to receive the Forecast newsletter via the Town Crier. For residents who still want a paper copy of the newsletter, the Town will print and deliver a hard copy to their home.  Click here to receive a paper copy.

Overgrown Vegetation

Residents are asked to keep all streets and sidewalks clear of overgrown vegetation.  Please prune vegetation to ensure unobstructed sight lines for pedestrians and motorists. 

COVID Test Kit

Free COVID Test Kits & Masks

The Town has COVID test kits and N95 masks available for pick up at the Town office on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The kits and masks are available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

Town Office Hours

The Town office is staffed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  On other days, staff teleworks.  There may be someone to assist on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but please contact the office in advance. 

Town Neighbors Listserv

Residents are encouraged to connect with fellow residents through the private Town Neighbors listserv.

Climate and Environment Tip of the Month (May): EV Resources

With recent gas price hikes, there has been an uptick of interest in hybrid and electric vehicles. There are already many models available but there will be *many* more options over the next 1-2 years. If you're interested in learning more to prepare for making your next vehicle purchase a hybrid or electric, here's several resources you can use.
