2023 Town Council Election Results


The Town's Election Board is pleased to announce that Stephanie Martz and Joy White have been elected to serve on the Town Council for a two-year term. Thanks to everyone who participated in the Town's 2023 election.


2023-2024 Council Officers & Committee Liaisons


At its May 10 meeting, the Council voted unanimously to appoint Council officers, as follows:

-- Irene Lane, Mayor
-- Barney Rush, Vice Mayor
-- Rich Brancato, Treasurer
-- Stephanie Martz, Secretary
-- Joy White, Community Liaison

The Council also voted unanimously to appoint Council liaisons to Town committees, as follows:

-- Climate and Environment: Joy White
-- Community Relations: Stephanie Martz
-- Land Use: Rich Brancato
-- Long-Range Planning: Barney Rush
-- Public Services: Irene Lane
-- Corso Special Committee: Barney Rush

Bethesda Market Park
New Concept Plan Presentation


On June 14 via Zoom (time TBD), the Parks Department will present the next concept plan for the Bethesda Market Park.  In developing this plan, the Parks Department considered public comments from the community meetings in March, from the subsequent online community survey that ended April 30, and from the Town’s resident survey that was conducted through April 15.  Residents are encouraged to attend this meeting to review the concept plan and learn how the project will proceed to final concept plan and beyond.

Council Approves National Gun Violence Awareness Day Proclamation


At its May 10 meeting, the Town Council read and unanimously approved a National Gun Violence Awareness Day Proclamation. The proclamation declares the first Friday in June, June 2, 2023, to be National Gun Violence Awareness Day and encourages all citizens to support their local communities’ and governments’ efforts to prevent gun violence and to honor and value human lives. It also encourages anyone to join this campaign by pledging to "Wear Orange" on June 2 to help raise awareness about gun violence.

Discussion & Desserts: The State of Gun Violence, June 8


On Thursday, June 8 at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall, join Town resident Chris Files as she discusses how our nation can address the epidemic of gun violence and enact common sense gun laws. The conversation will include an overview of gun violence and gun laws in the US, the threat of gun violence in our schools, and an update on recently passed gun laws by the Maryland State Legislature. Chris has worked on gun violence issues for the last seven years at the national, state, and local levels. She serves as Co-Chair of the DC Area Interfaith Gun Violence Prevention Network. Rockville Concert Band, June 11


The Rockville Concert Band will present "Chevy Chase Pops" on Sunday, June 11 at 5:30 p.m. at the Lawton Center basketball court/lawn. Under the direction of Dr. Juan Gallastegui, this full-sized concert band will present tunes for the whole family to enjoy. The venue is next to the playground at the Lawton Center, so kids can play while you listen to the music.

CC@H is a member organization providing social and educational programs to neighbors of all ages and support services to older adults. You can learn more at www.chevychaseathome.org.


Town Neighbors Listserv


Residents are encouraged to connect with fellow residents through the private Town Neighbors listserv.


Free COVID Test Kits & Masks


The Town has COVID test kits and N95 masks available for pick up at the Town office on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The kits and masks are available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
