Bethesda Market Park Project Update

As announced in prior updates, Montgomery Parks postponed the Bethesda Market Park virtual community meeting that was scheduled for June 14 while the partnership team continues to work on the concept plan and budget for the future park. The Town will notify residents when a new date for the virtual meeting is scheduled. More information on the park project is available here.

Stop Light

Red Light Signal to be Installed at East West Highway Crosswalk

The Town is pleased to report that the Maryland State Highway Administration has agreed to install a red light signal at the crosswalk on East West Highway near Maple Avenue. In addition to the new traffic signal, additional improvements in the vicinity will include new marked crosswalks at Maple Avenue and Edgevale Street, countdown pedestrian signals, and pedestrian signals activated by push buttons.

This improved signalization responds to a long-standing request of the Town to increase pedestrian safety along the corridor since the opening of the Sleaford pedestrian underpass on the north side of East West Highway. Construction is expected to take place in the second half of 2024 following the completion of design and engineering. The Town will provide updates as plans progress.

State Delegation to Attend July 12 Council Meeting

The Town’s District 18 delegation in the Maryland General Assembly, comprised of Senator Jeff Waldstreicher and Delegates Aaron Kaufman, Emily Shetty, and Jared Solomon, will meet with the Town Council at 6 p.m. on July 12, immediately prior to the monthly Council meeting, to discuss how the delegation can best support the Town’s priorities and our shared constituents. Residents are encouraged to attend this meeting. If you have a question that you would like the Council to pose to the delegation, please submit it to townoffice@townofchevychase.org.

Plastics Recycling

The Town’s recycling contractor accepts many plastics that other recycling companies may not. Residents recycle most plastics with some exceptions. Please do not recycle plastic grocery bags (take them to your nearest grocery store) and do not recycle hinged clamshell containers that are often found at salad bars. Sturdy plastic containers that have separate lids may be recycled. A detailed single-stream recycling guide is available here.

Town Launches Redesigned Website

The Town recently launched a redesigned website at www.townofchevychase.org. The functionality and navigation of the site haven't changed, so residents can easily find their favorite pages. The redesign features photos of Town open spaces and residential properties that have been taken over the years. We hope you enjoy using the new site and find it a refreshing update.
