WEEKLY TOWN UPDATES
July 28, 2023

Recording Available of Corso's July 25
Pre-Submission Community Meeting

A recording of Corso's Pre-Submission Community Meeting is available at https://bit.ly/3Qdckh0. This meeting was held to share the applicant's plans with the community and provide an opportunity for public input.

Presentation slides from the meeting are available at https://bit.ly/3rD3rDm. Corso also has prepared a Parking Demand Analysis and Comprehensive Vehicular Site Access Study. The Town has retained a traffic engineering firm to assist with reviewing and commenting on these documents.

Parking Permit

2023-2025 Parking Permit Renewals

Current parking permits will expire on September 30, 2023. Parking permits are issued only for vehicles belonging to residents who live on a street within a designated permit parking area (see map).

To renew permits or request new permits, simply complete the form. If requesting a new permit, and the car is not registered at a Town address, you must upload proof of residency in the form of a lease, utility bill, or similar document. In addition to parking permits, one guest permit will be issued per household. Residents may request a second guest pass. Decals and guest passes will be issued after August 1.

The parking permit should be permanently affixed to the left rear (driver’s side) bumper of the vehicle to facilitate the frequent checks made by the Town’s parking enforcement officers. The guest permit should be placed on the dashboard of the visitor’s car and retrieved after the visit. Vehicles that do not display current decals or guest passes will be ticketed.

Safety First

Safe Streets Community Project

"Slow Down and Stop" Campaign

The Public Services Committee continues its “Slow Down and Stop” Campaign. The campaign envisions a small-town ambience where all residents can safely enjoy walking, biking, chatting with neighbors, and benefitting from our beautiful tree-canopied neighborhood.

This campaign is intended to remind drivers to observe the Town's speed limit and come to a full stop at stop signs. We see the campaign as a supplement to the Town's existing tools to enforce traffic regulations.

We want your input!  Please visit bit.ly/TOCCSafeStreets to:

  • Share your ideas about how to encourage people, residents and nonresidents alike, to drive safely in the Town, especially around the public amenities -- Chevy Chase Elementary School, the Lawton Community Center, Wonders Early Learning, and Oneness School.
  • Give feedback to the Committee about the campaign initiative.
  • Report observed incidents of unsafe driving.  Please include date, approximate time, location and description of the vehicle.  Include the direction of travel and what was unsafe about the incident (speeding, near miss, failure to stop, etc.).

RainScapes

RainScapes Supplemental Rebate Program

The Town offers a program that provides residents who complete a County RainScapes project with a supplemental rebate of up to 50% of the County rebate amount, with the total combined rebate limited to 85% of the total cost of the project.

Although the County program closed to new applicants on March 3, 2023, residents are encouraged to take advantage of the Town's Consulting Water Management Program (see below) to identify a suitable Rainscapes project for their property in anticipation of the County's reopening of the program on August 1, 2023.

If you need help identifying a suitable RainScapes project for your property, you may sign up on the Town website to participate in the Town's free Consulting Water Management Program, wherein the Town's consulting engineer will visit your property and provide a written report with recommendations on improving water drainage and runoff, including recommendations for RainScapes-eligible projects.

After completing a RainScapes project, a homeowner should submit copies of project receipts and a copy of the paid County rebate receipt to the Town to receive the supplemental rebate.
