Town Submits Approval Letter for Corso Development

On December 18, the Town submitted a letter to the Planning Department expressing support for the Planning Board’s conditional approval of Corso’s site plan application. The letter states our appreciation for the applicant's collaboration with the Town to address concerns related to the redevelopment of the former 4-H property.  However, it notes that there are two outstanding issues on which we ask the Planning Board to seek additional assurances in its approval of the application.  Specifically, the two issues are site access and stormwater management.  The Town’s letter provides more detail on both issues.

The next step in the application process is preparation of a staff report by the Planning staff followed by the Planning Board public hearing, which is tentatively scheduled for February 1, 2024.  The Town will continue to keep residents informed as the project proceeds.

Leaf Vacuuming Has Ended

Today was the last day for leaf vacuuming from Town streets. All leaves must now be placed in paper bags or reusable containers for yard waste collection on Mondays.

Holiday Office Closure and Trash Collection Schedule

The Town office will be closed from Friday, December 22 through Tuesday, December 26 for the Christmas holiday and from Friday, December 29 through Tuesday, January 2 for the New Years holiday.

  • Household trash will not be collected on Monday, December 25 or Monday, January 1  but will be collected on the next regularly-scheduled collection days for that route (Thursday, December 28 and Thursday, January 4).
  • Recycling will be collected on the regular Wednesday schedule during both holiday weeks, but collection may carry over into Thursday of each week if it cannot be completed on Wednesday.
  • Yard waste will be collected on Tuesday during both holiday weeks.
  • Household organic waste (composting) will be collected on Wednesday, December 27 and Wednesday, January 3.

St. John's Church to Host Saturday Services
Permit Parking Enforcement to be Suspended

On Saturday, December 23, St. John's Church (6701 Wisconsin Avenue) will host a neighboring church for services and lunch since the neighboring church recently lost heat. The Town has agreed to suspend permit parking enforcement around St. John's from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. that day since a large congregation is expected, and St. John's parking lot cannot accommodate all vehicles.

Santa is Coming to Town

Santa Claus will be coming to Town from the Chevy Chase Fire Department on Saturday, December 23 in the early evening.  He will be traveling down Maple Avenue from East-West Highway to Bradley Lane.

Clothing Drive

Winter Clothing Drive Continues Thru February

Did you get a nice warm coat or sweater as a holiday gift? There are people who could use your last year’s clothes. Interfaith Works provides free clothing to thousands of Montgomery County families. Please donate clean, gently used or never used warm coats, gloves, mittens, scarves, hats, sweaters, pants, and socks to those in need. Also needed are waterproof warm winter wear, for those who are outside in the cold rain or snow. The clothing box is located on the front porch of Marjorie Shaw and Barney Rush, at 6917 Maple Avenue (between Maple and Pine Place).

Antisemitism Workshop, January 16

If you would like to learn how to address the recent barrage of antisemitism in America, please join the Town of Chevy Chase and the Village of Martin’s Additions on January 16 from 7 to 8 p.m. for a special Zoom webinar presented by the American Jewish Committee.  Participants in this program will develop an understanding of the Jewish community and its diversity; learn how to recognize antisemitism and how it manifests today; examine how it differs from other forms of bigotry; discuss when criticism of Israel crosses the line into antisemitism; understand how antisemitism impacts democracy; and discuss what we as individuals and as a neighborhood can do about it.  To join this robust conversation, register here.

Our Town of Chevy Chase Book Club will meet January 22 at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall.  Our book title will be announced soon by Town Crier, on the Town Neighbors listserv, and on Facebook and Instagram.  Come check out the new chairs, new friends, and lively discussions.
