Town Council Seeks Input on County's Multi-Family Housing Proposals
The Town Council extends its gratitude to residents who participated in last night's Public Forum on Attainable Housing Strategies. You can review the presentation here. We had a highly informative meeting with many questions and comments.
Overview of Proposals
Today, the Montgomery County Planning's Attainable Housing Strategies Report, which outlines zoning adjustments, will be sent to the County Council. These changes aim to continue allowing the construction of both single-family homes but also permit the development of multi-family units in single-family neighborhoods across the County, as defined below:
-- Small-Scale Attainable Housing: Multi-unit buildings like duplexes, triplexes, and quadplexes.
-- Medium-Scale Attainable Housing: Targeting growth corridors like Connecticut & Wisconsin Avenues, this includes three- to four-story stacked flats, small apartment buildings, and townhouses, with units designed to be more affordable. These corridors would include land 500 feet on each side of these avenues, and therefore encompass numerous lots in the Town.
-- Large-Scale Attainable Housing: Introducing mixed-use, live/work, and apartment buildings four stories or higher along growth corridors through the master planning process.
Next Actions
The Planning Department will present these rezoning recommendations during the County Council's Planning, Housing, and Parks (PHP) Committee meeting on Monday, June 24 at 1:30 p.m. (3rd floor Council Hearing Room, Council Office Building, 100 Maryland Avenue in Rockville). Residents are encouraged to attend either in person or virtually via Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/c/MoCoCouncilMD).
Residents are also urged to share feedback with both the Town Council (townoffice@townofchevychase.org) and County Council President Andrew Friedson (andrew.friedson@montgomerycountymd.gov), who is the Town's representative. Your input on both the scale and any specific suggestions for or concerns about multi-family housing within the Town is valuable.
