New East West Highway Crosswalk Installed
The Maryland State Highway Administration has successfully installed a new red-light signal at the crosswalk located on East-West Highway near Maple Avenue. Along with the traffic signal, other enhancements include marked crosswalks, countdown pedestrian signals, and push-button-activated pedestrian signals.
Commenting on the new crosswalk, Mayor Irene Lane said, "This new signal effectively addresses the long-standing pedestrian safety concerns of the Town of Chevy Chase and Edgevale communities. It significantly benefits students walking or biking through the Sleaford Pass to Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School and will be even more advantageous once the Capital Crescent Trail opens. We've already received positive feedback from those who have used the crosswalk, expressing their appreciation. This achievement exemplifies the power of teamwork across all levels of government, and we deeply appreciate the collaborative spirit that made this improvement a reality."
The Town Council extends its gratitude to everyone involved in the project, including our State Senator Waldstreicher, State Delegates Kaufman, Shetty, and Solomon, County Council President Andrew Friedson, the State Highway Administration, and the County's Department of Transportation.
