Town Council Urges Support for the 16th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner Donations to YMCA Youth and Family Services

As we prepare for Thanksgiving, it’s important to recognize a growing challenge facing many families in Montgomery County—food insecurity. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our Town residents in recent years, we have been able to provide over 100 families through YMCA Youth & Family Services with $100 gift cards, allowing them to celebrate the holiday with dignity and joy. 

In recognition of our continued support, we are proud to announce that the Town of Chevy Chase has just been named the YMCA Youth & Family Services Community Partner of the Year by the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington. This honor reflects the meaningful impact our community has had on the lives of others. 

However, the need this year is even greater. Food insecurity has dramatically increased in Montgomery County, and the YMCA hopes to assist 150 families this Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, our 2024 campaign is off to a slower start compared to previous years. While we know that charitable giving is personal and there are many worthy causes to support, this is a moment for us to unite as a community and make a profound difference. 

Please consider contributing to the 16th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner Donations campaign today:

• Drop off or mail a check payable to YMCA-YFS or gift cards from Giant or Aldi to Georgia Guhin at 4006 Rosemary Street, Chevy Chase, MD 20815, or to the Town Office throughout October. 
• If you prefer, request a volunteer to pick up your donation by contacting Georgia Guhin at gbguhin@gmail.com, Bridget Hartman at bridget@hartmanjr.net, or the Town Office at townoffice@townofchevychase.org. 

Every donation, no matter how small, will contribute to purchasing $100 food cards for each of the 150 families in need. Rest assured, 100% of your donation will directly benefit families within Montgomery County. Any additional funds raised will go toward purchasing extra food cards. Please note that the YMCA cannot accept online donations for this special project, but you will receive an acknowledgment of your donation.
