Update on Governor's Proposed Housing Bill
The Town has been steadily engaged in opposing the proposed “Starter and Silver Homes Act” that would pre-empt much of our local authority to set building regulations and stipulate that Townhomes of 3 or more would be permitted by right.
We had previously distributed to residents the letter that the Town and 11 other down county municipalities submitted to our respective State delegations. Mayor Rush has followed up, testifying in person at the House Economic Matters Committee on February 12th, and at the Senate Education, Energy and Environment Committee on February 19th. The administration has agreed to a number of amendments, but these are inadequate in our view to address our concerns.
We strongly urge residents to write directly to our State Delegation with your views. During the public hearings, Delegates and Senators made clear the importance of hearing from constituents on this very consequential proposed legislation.
