Rockville Concert BandSunday, June 9, 5:30 p.m. Lawton Center ConcertThe Rockville Concert Band has been rehearsing hard to bring an excellent concert to the Town this Sunday, June 9, so make a note in your calendars to come enjoy a good old-fashioned Sunday night concert. Even though the current forecast for Sunday is rain, the band will be playing either outside on the basketball courts or inside the Lawton Center Social Hall (if it rains), so don't let the weather interfere with attending! Under the direction of Dr. Juan Gallestegui Roca, this 50+ piece band will dazzle you with old and new favorites during the evening's concert. Come and hear a wide selection from Toy Story and Harry Potter to traditional marches and the 1812 Overture. Come out for the music, but bring a few dollars to grab something delicious as, there will be two food trucks on site (Holy Crepes and Tasty Grill to Go). Children are welcome to listen, or play on the playground. Chairs will be available, but feel free to bring a blanket to sit on if you wish. There are videos on YouTube of some of the good music the Rockville Concert Band plays if you are interested.

Reduce Plastic Waste Sub-Committee AnnouncementThe Town’s Reduce Plastic Waste sub-committee along with the Community Relations Committee have been working hard to reduce the amount of plastic waste at Town events. We are happy to report that in place of the ~ 1200 plastic water bottles we’ve used at past July 4th celebrations, we will be providing filtered water. We encourage you to bring your own water bottles to the 4th of July event. But, if anyone forgets, we will be providing compostable cups too. The Town also is providing compostable plates, cups, and utensils and The Compost Crew will be in attendance to collect all of those items. Since this is a lot to manage, we are in need of at least 6 volunteers to help us with the provision of filtered water and also for guiding people to the right disposal bins (compost, recycling, landfill). If you are willing to help please reply to Betsy Johnson at 240-461-1402 and she will explain further and sign you up for a time.

Please Clean Up After Your PetThe Town office has received numerous complaints about dog waste being left on the grounds of Chevy Chase Elementary School and on other public areas in Town. The Town has installed numerous dog waste stations in Town, including three around the elementary school. Leaving dog waste on school grounds is unlawful and poses a health hazard to children and others who use the school’s outdoor recreational facilities. We appreciate your cooperation in addressing this issue.
