Play Date in the Park
Sunday, August 25, 10 a.m., Leland Park
Calling All Rising K thru 2nd Grade Children and Parents for a Play Date in the Park -- Gather together on Sunday, August 25 at 10 a.m. in Leland Park for light breakfast fare, coffee and juice to reduce first-day-of-school jitters. Rising kindergartners will get a chance to meet other neighborhood primary school-aged children before the start of the school year. New parents will have a chance to connect with “veteran” parents, ask questions and learn about what to expect as their child celebrates this special milestone. Parents are welcome to bring all their children, not just the “rising” ones! Please RSVP by August 23 to the Town Office at townoffice@townofchevychase.org or 301-654-7144.
Town's Second Acoustic Music Jam
Thursday, September 19, 7 p.m., Town Hall
The Town has many musicians and singers who are being invited to join an Acoustic Music Jam (no electric, no percussion) that will include bluegrass music as well as folk, traditional, and blues. Music jams are gatherings of musicians & singers who play, sing and share songs in a structured but informal setting. Playing in a group setting always helps a musician to stay sharp, and fledgling musicians or singers can test out their chops and gain skill and confidence in leading a song. Town residents who want to play, and those who want to listen, are all welcome. Wine, beer, and snacks will be served.
Musicians and singers, please contact Jim Mich at jamesemich@aol.com or 301-922-3642. If you want to come to enjoy the music, please RSVP to townoffice@townofchevychase.org or 301-654-7144.
Street Paving Scheduled
The Town's street paving contractor is expected to begin resurfacing streets in the southwest quadrant of the Town on Monday, August 26. The contractor will begin by repaving West Avenue from Bradley Lane to Ridge Street and Walsh Street between East Avenue and 46th Street.
Special Announcement About Glass Recycling
Effective immediately, the Town's recycling contractor NO LONGER ACCEPTS GLASS because it breaks during transport contaminating other materials and causing machinery damage. In addition, the worldwide market for recycled glass has dropped precipitously, making it uneconomical for many communities to continue accepting glass in single stream recycling programs.
However, if you do not want your glass waste to end up in the incinerator, the Montgomery County Transfer Station on Rockville Pike (16101 Frederick Rd., Gaithersburg) accepts CLEAN GLASS (clear, green and brown bottles and jars only). Or you may be able to take it to an office, store, place of worship, or another place where glass still is recycled. The Town is looking for a better, long-term solution to this issue, and we will keep you posted.
