Time to be a Safe Senior
I would like to follow up on Wicca’s good message of yesterday.
Last week, when residents were asked to volunteer to help their neighbors, I immediately sent in my name. Sure, I’m almost 68, but I’m a concerned member of our community, and I want to help.
But on reflection, I shouldn’t volunteer to shop for others. Instead, my wife and I are going to ask others to shop for us. And I ask all of you who are also seniors -- even if you are healthy -- to do the same. The reason is simple: we want to do our part to help make sure that our health care system does not get overwhelmed. If it does, more people will be at great risk of their lives.
To be clear, the risk of being infected by coronavirus does not appear to vary with age. But seniors, once infected, are more susceptible to getting very sick -- and making demands on our health system. Therefore, we seniors have a special responsibility to practice social distancing. And the fact is that this is very difficult to do when we shop.
Fortunately, we now have a volunteer program in place, coordinated by Wicca Davidson, and comprised of residents who can shop for you and do errands. If you are in the same position as my wife and myself, please contact Wicca at wicca@wiccadavidson.com. You will get the help you need. And if something arises and you must shop, please consider the special hours stores are now setting aside for seniors.
Stay safe –
