Council to Consider Battery-Powered Equipment Rebate Program
At its December 9 meeting, the Town Council will consider a rebate program for the purchase of battery-powered blowers and related equipment. The proposed program is intended to encourage the use of quieter equipment by residents and by landscaping companies who provide services in the Town. The Council held a work session on December 1 to discuss this program and agreed to the following proposed terms:
1. The program will be effective from January 1, 2021 through May 31, 2021, and subject to the Ceiling Authorization.
2. A resident may apply for a rebate for 50% of the cost of new battery-powered blowers and/or batteries purchased under this program, for a one-time rebate per residence of up to $200.
a. To apply, a resident must complete an application and provide a copy of a receipt demonstrating proof of purchase by either the resident or by a landscape contractor. Residents who wish their rebate to be provided to a landscape contractor shall certify on their application that the contractor will use battery-powered equipment on their property.
b. The same receipt of purchase by a contractor may be provided by multiple residents who use the same contractor. A single contractor is eligible to receive the rebates of up to five (5) residents, provided that the 50% reimbursement requirement applies.
3. The Council authorizes a Ceiling Authorization of $30,000 for this program.
4. An awareness campaign will be launched to ensure that all residents and contractors working in the Town are aware of the rebate program and the benefits of using battery-powered equipment.
The Council invites residents to provide feedback on this proposed program either during the public comment period at the December 9 Council meeting or by email to townoffice@townofchevychase.org. We look forward to hearing from you.
