Purple Line Construction Updates

Weekend Work at Bethesda Work Zone (Elm Street): The project will be working on Saturdays in February at the Bethesda Work Zone on Elm St., continuing excavation efforts between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Blasting at Bethesda/Elm Street Work Zone: Due to varying rock conditions, blasting will occur in the Bethesda Shaft location during the month of February between the hours of 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday - Friday.  Blasting is not planned on weekends or holidays.  Prior to each blast, a siren will be used as a safety precaution for workers within the work zone.

Possible Lane Closures on Connecticut Avenue: Starting Saturday, February 16, 2019, crews will be relocating utilities on Connecticut Avenue between Jones Bridge Road and East-West Highway for installation of overhead PEPCO poles for the remainder of Saturdays in February between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Temporary lane closures with flagging operations will occur.

Possible Lane Closures on Jones Mill Road: Temporary lane closures will occur over the next two weeks on an as needed basis from Jones Mill Road to Jones Bridge Road for excavation between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Possible Lane Closures on East-West Highway: Temporary lane closures will occur over the next two weeks on an as needed basis on East-West Highway, stretching from the Sleaford Road work zone to Montgomery Avenue between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Lane closures are needed for staging equipment during drilling operations for utility relocations.

Weekend Work at Columbia Country Club: Crews will continue excavation at the Columbia Country Club on Saturdays in February between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Sidewalk and Lane Closure -- 7750 Wisconsin Avenue

Starting February 1, 2019, Hensel Phelps will close the sidewalk and curb lane in front of the 7750 Wisconsin Avenue Project.  This closure will facilitate excavation and earthwork activities for the construction of the referenced project.  Pedestrian access will be maintained during all non-work hours and weekends.

Starting in February 2019, there will be an increased usage of the curb lane due to the hauling operations.  Pedestrians will be detoured to the east sidewalk of Wisconsin Avenue during work hours.  Please pay close attention to signage as conditions may change from time to time.

The closures are anticipated to remain for an extended period of time through project completion.
