  Street Repaving to Continue Next Week

The Town’s paving contractor is scheduled to continue street repaving next week.  A tentative schedule is below.  Each day, the Town will update the work schedule via the Town’s email notification system and on the Town website, as weather and other factors can cause unforeseen delays.    

During the work, the streets will be closed and vehicular access to and from homes where the paving work is being done will be restricted during the day.  The streets will be reopened each night.  Please follow all traffic controls and “No Parking” signs that are posted.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation during this inconvenient, but necessary, work.   


Tentative Paving Schedule -- Week of June 3

Monday 6/3:
•  Remove top layer of asphalt and make repairs to the road base on Elm Street

Tuesday 6/4: 
•  Pave Elm Street
•  Remove top layer of asphalt on Thornapple Street from Maple Avenue to Oakridge Avenue

Wednesday 6/5:
•  Remove top layer of asphalt and make repairs to the road base on Willow Lane from 45th Street to the dead end 
•  Make repairs to the road base on Thornapple from Maple Avenue to Oakridge Avenue

Thursday 6/6:
•  Pave Willow Lane from 45th Street to the dead end
•  Pave Thornapple Street from Maple Avenue to Oakridge Avenue

Friday 6/7:
•  Remove top layer of asphalt on Oakridge Avenue from Elm Street to Leland Street
•  Remove top layer of asphalt and make repairs to the road base on Willow Lane from 45th Street to 46th Street
•  Remove top layer of asphalt and make repairs to the road base on 46th Street from Willow Lane to Leland Street

Monday 6/10: 
•  Pave Willow Lane from 45th Street to 46th Street
•  Pave 46th Street from Willow Lane to Leland Street

 Rockville Concert Band
Sunday, June 9, 5:30 p.m. Lawton Center Outdoor Concert

Come hear the Rockville Concert Band play a good old-fashioned Sunday night outdoor concert.  The band will play a variety of marches, movie music and more -- even the 1812 Overture!  Come out for the music, but bring a few dollars to grab something delicious to eat at the Holy Crepes and Tasty Grill to Go food trucks.  Chairs will be available, but feel free to bring a blanket to sit on if you wish.  The playground is right there on the grounds of the Lawton Center for your children to play on while listening to the band.  Plenty of parking is available too.



 Utility Work Update

WSSC is scheduled to replace a sewer manhole on Bradley Lane at Maple Avenue next week.  The work will require the closure of the westbound lane of Bradley Lane between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and is expected to take 4 to 5 days to complete, weather permitting.  The contractor will provide the necessary traffic controls and personnel to direct traffic.  Once the manhole replacement on Bradley Lane is completed, the contractor will complete a sewer relining project in the 6700 block of Maple Avenue. 



 Please Clean Up After Your Pet

The Town office has received numerous complaints about dog waste being left on the grounds of Chevy Chase Elementary School and on other public areas in Town. The Town has installed numerous dog waste stations in Town, including three around the elementary school.  Leaving dog waste on school grounds is unlawful and poses a health hazard to children and others who use the school’s outdoor recreational facilities. We appreciate your cooperation in addressing this issue.



June Purple Line Construction Updates

Lane Closure on Chevy Chase Lake Drive:  The westbound lane of Chevy Chase Lake Drive at the intersection of Connecticut Avenue will be partially closed for utility work.  Work will take place weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Temporary lane closures with flagging operations will occur.

Night Work/Lane Closure on Connecticut Avenue:  Crews will be relocating utilities on Connecticut Avenue between Jones Bridge Road and East-West Highway.  Work will occur in two shifts, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.  Weekend work will occur between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.  Temporary lane closures with flagging operations will occur. 

Traffic Shift on Jones Mill Road:  Traffic will be shifted onto the northbound side of Jones Mill Road for phase one of the traffic change.  Crews will be excavating and installing the arch for the future underpass.  Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and weekends.

Weekend Work at Columbia Country Club:  Crews will continue work at the Columbia Country Club 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays and weekends.  

Weekend Work at Bethesda Work Zone (Elm Street):  Crews will be working at the Bethesda Work Zone on Elm Street, continuing excavation efforts on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., as well as weekends.

Weekend Work and Lane Closures on East-West Highway:  Temporary lane closures will occur on East-West Highway from Sleaford Road to Montgomery Avenue between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on weekdays and weekends.  

Weekend Work and Lane Closure on Jones Mill Road and Jones Bridge Road:  Temporary lane closures will occur on Jones Bridge Road between Altimont Lane and Jones Mill Road , as well as Jones Mill Road between Flushing Meadow Terrace and Coquelin Terrace between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays and weekends. 

Weekend Work on the Georgetown Branch Trail between Sleaford Road and East West Highway:  Crews will be relocating utilities along the Georgetown Branch Trail from Sleaford Road access point to East-West Highway.  Work will take place weekends from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Weekend Work on the Rock Creek Trail:  Crews will be performing grading and test pitting operations at Rock Creek Park on weekends from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on an as-needed basis.



Farmers' Market Opens in Chevy Chase Section 3
Saturday, June 1, 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Taylor Street and Brookville Road

Stop by tomorrow for the opening day of the Farmers' Market.  There is ample parking at LaFerme restaurant.  They have graciously offered that space for shoppers at the Farmers’ Market.  In the coming weeks, there are plans to have a food truck serving breakfast, live acoustic music, and a flea market table.
