Town's Second Acoustic Music Jam
Thursday, September 19, 7 p.m., Town Hall

The Town has many musicians and singers who are being invited to join an Acoustic Music Jam (no electric, no percussion) that will include bluegrass music as well as folk, traditional, and blues.  Music jams are gatherings of musicians & singers who play, sing and share songs in a structured but informal setting.  Playing in a group setting always helps a musician to stay sharp, and fledgling musicians or singers can test out their chops and gain skill and confidence in leading a song.  Town residents who want to play, and those who want to listen, are all welcome.  Wine, beer, and snacks will be served.

Musicians and singers, please contact Jim Mich at jamesemich@aol.com or 301-922-3642.  If you want to come to enjoy the music, please RSVP to townoffice@townofchevychase.org or 301-654-7144.

Special Announcement About Glass Recycling

Effective immediately, the Town's recycling contractor NO LONGER ACCEPTS GLASS because it breaks during transport contaminating other materials and causing machinery damage.  In addition, the worldwide market for recycled glass has dropped precipitously, making it uneconomical for many communities to continue accepting glass in single stream recycling programs.

However, if you do not want your glass waste to end up in the incinerator, the Montgomery County Transfer Station (16101 Frederick Rd., Derwood) accepts CLEAN GLASS (clear, green and brown bottles and jars only).  Or you may be able to take it to an office, store, place of worship, or another place where glass still is recycled.  The Town is looking for a better, long-term solution to this issue, and we will keep you posted.

Martin's Additions Movie Night
Sunday, September 1, 7:30 p.m., Chevy Chase Park

The rain date is Saturday, September 7. For more information or questions, contact Martin's Additions at manager@martinsadditions.org or 301-656-4112.

Landscape Noise, Pollution and Solutions Session & Workshop
Saturday, September 28, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Chevy Chase Village Hall

Come hear a panel of experts who will talk about national and local initiatives to move away from landscaping practices that create unnecessary noise and pollution.  Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, Maryland State Senator Jeff Waldstreicher, Maryland State Delegate Al Carr and Town Council members will be in attendance.

This information session and workshop is designed to help Chevy Chase residents learn about ways to reduce the use of gas-powered landscape equipment and create a quieter, healthier environment for our community.  The event, open to all, is organized by the Chevy Chase Village Environment and Energy Committee and is co-sponsored by our Town and Somerset.

RSVP to: ccv@montgomerycountymd.gov

Speakers:  Dr. Jamie Banks, Executive Director of Quiet Communities; Chuck Elkins, Washington, DC ANC Commissioner and former Director of Noise Control and Federal Air Pollution Control Programs at EPA
