Update on Bethesda Farm Women's Market Redevelopment

At its October 24 meeting, the Montgomery County Planning Board approved the two redevelopment projects included in the Bethesda Market Sketch Plan.  The first approved project is the EYA-Bernstein redevelopment of the site where Villain & Saint was located, the Bethesda Farm Women’s Market site, and surface parking lots 10 and 24.  The developers have made several presentations about this project to the Town, most recently on October 3.

The second approved project is the Foulger-Pratt redevelopment of the block across the street from the Market where Starbucks and JoS. Banks are located.   Mayor Barney Rush testified at the Planning Board hearing, expressing the Town’s support of the EYA-Bernstein project and serious concerns about the proposed Foulger-Pratt project, which does not comply with the Design Guidelines that are a part of the master plan.  Both projects must now finalize their designs and obtain approval from the Planning Board for their Site Plans before they can apply for building permits.  The EYA-Bernstein project additionally must finalize the public-private partnership for the undergrounding of the surface parking, which will create the area for the new parks.  The video of the Planning Board meeting is available here.
