Volunteers Sought for Chevy Chase Fire Department Board and
Montgomery County Police Advisory Board


The Town is seeking one volunteer to serve on the Chevy Chase Fire Department Board of Directors and one volunteer to serve on the Montgomery County Police Advisory Board.
 
The Chevy Chase Fire Department (CCFD) Board is comprised of volunteers representing the 10 communities in the response area for Station 7 on Connecticut Avenue.  In the case of the Town of Chevy Chase, the eastern half of the Town is in the response area for Station 7, while the western half of the Town is in the response area for Station 6 (Bethesda Fire Department) on Wisconsin Avenue.  The CCFD board meets the second Wednesday of each month at 8 p.m., usually for an hour or less.  Board members are asked to attend the meetings in order to stay informed of any Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) policy changes that may affect the delivery of services to their community; assist with decision making about the fire station, which is owned by the CCFD fire board; serve on a committee from time to time; and help with the annual Open House on the second Saturday of October.  If board members wish to be more involved, they can serve as a board officer and/or represent the CCFD with the Montgomery County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association, which represents the volunteer departments when negotiating with the MCFRS concerning fire and rescue policies.  Board members serve a three-year term. Each community has three representatives, and the Town of Chevy Chase currently has only two representatives. 
 
The Montgomery County Police Advisory Board is an informal group of area residents who meet periodically with 2nd District police officials to review and discuss crime trends and prevention; traffic issues; and any specific public safety issues.  The advisory board meets at the Bethesda Police Station approximately 6 to 8 times per year for an hour or less.  There is no regularly scheduled meeting.  There are occasional guest speakers at board meetings, and last year the board was offered tours of the new police station and the emergency operations center. Board members may serve as long as they wish.
