2020 Town Council Election -- Privacy and Vote-By-Mail-Procedures

By now, all Town voters should have received the election issue of the Forecast newsletter and a vote-by-mail ballot for the 2020 Town Council election.  Detailed election procedures, along with statements of each candidate, are included in the newsletter for voter reference.  It has come to our attention that some voters may not be comfortable with mailing their ballot return envelope with the required personal identification information on the outside.  Although this information is publicly available upon request, and while this was the practice with absentee balloting in past Town elections, we recognize the concern and offer the following alternative.  Voters may place their completed ballot return envelope in a personal envelope with the same mailing address that is on the ballot return envelope and with proper postage affixed.  Please ensure that the personal envelope is post marked by May 5, 2020 in order for the enclosed ballot to be counted.  Following this election, the Town’s Election Board will discuss revising this practice for future Town elections and will make recommendations to the Town Council.
