Message from Town Council Candidate Irene Lane

Hello Neighbors! My name is Irene Lane and I am asking for your vote to be a member of our Town Council.  I truly enjoyed last night’s Candidates’ Forum, which covered topics as varied as accessory dwelling units (ADUs) to park amenities to inspiring public figures.  It was both thought-provoking and beneficial to hear from residents about their concerns and suggestions for making the Town even better.  In case you missed it, a recording can be found here

The Candidates’ Forum also added perspective to the many wonderful conversations I have had with residents in the last few weeks.  During these challenging times, I think it’s helpful to have people with different skill sets collaboratively working on issues and developing solutions.

My background is in software development, financial modeling, and business process improvement.  I’d like to apply these skills and would welcome the opportunity to work with residents to explore some of the following priorities for the Town:
  • My software design and development background can be applied toward addressing cut-through traffic and parking enforcement challenges as well as enhancing our Town’s communication methods,
  • My financial modeling skills can be applied toward tracking our Town’s budget so that we are prepared should there be an economic downturn as well as enumerating a proposed program’s long-term benefits, and
  • My business process improvement experience can be applied toward analyzing proposed ordinances as well as developing meaningful opportunities for our teens to serve the Town.
As a small business owner, I understand what it means to gain consensus, shepherd the right resources, and move things forward.  This experience can help with cross-collaboration amongst standing committees as well as building stronger partnerships with external service organizations – especially those who are assisting the most vulnerable in our area right now.

As Chair of the Climate & Environment Committee, I have worked hard on some difficult projects for the Town.  Throughout this time, I’ve gained insight and knowledge about the important role our Town committees and volunteers perform for our community.

If elected to serve as your Councilmember, I commit to listening, being prepared, and making transparent decisions on the many issues brought before the Town Council.

Please don’t hesitate to email me a
t irene.townelection@gmail.com or call me at 202.758.4584 with your concerns and suggestions.  Also, please ensure that your ballot is postmarked by May 5.

Thank you and be well,
Irene
