Council Work Session to Discuss Comments to Planning Board
We have received a number of questions about planned protest activities today in downtown Bethesda, starting at 1:00 pm at the Bethesda (Connie Morella) Library.
Today's protest is being planned by area students in response to the horrific killing of George Floyd and in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. The organizers have been coordinating the protest with the Montgomery County Police Department and other County officials. We understand that the County Police plan to have an increased presence in downtown Bethesda today during the protest.
We have every reason to expect that today’s protest will be peaceful, as have been the overwhelming majority of protests around the country. The Montgomery County Police have also affirmed their support of the right to peaceful protest.
In addition to our regular off-duty police coverage in the Town, the County Police plan to send multiple officers into the Bethesda/Chevy Chase area each evening over the next week to deter and respond to any criminal activity that might arise.
Should you have information or concerns of a non-emergency nature related to the protest, call the 2nd Police District at 301-718-2462. For any emergencies, call 911.
