At this work session, Mayor Lang, Councilmember Fred Cecere, liaison to the Town's Long Range Planning Committee (LRP), and LRP co-chairs Grant Davies and Kathie Legg reviewed and discussed the status of the Purple line project; the matrix of issues and options developed by the LRP; additional information and updates that the Town should obtain from local, state and federal agencies; ongoing environmental litigation; and next steps, including further discussions and reviews to be held over the course of the next year.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the group agreed to several next steps, including informing Town residents about the status of the Purple Line project and the environmental lawsuit brought by the Friends of the Capital Crescent Trail (FCCT). The group also agreed to review the Purple Line Record of Decision and identify the omission of specific commitments and mitigation measures requested by the Town for the project. Finally, the group agreed to outline options with respect to the Town's possible involvement in, or support of, the FCCT environmental lawsuit. These options will be discussed and considered by the Town Council as a subsequent meeting.
We are working on the best methods to provide details to the Town to weigh in on this decision. This really needs to be 2-way communications. To help we are posting the DRAFT matrix [http://www.townofchevychase.org/DocumentCenter/View/1468] that is under construction by the LRP and which will further be discussed at their 8/17 meeting.
