Thanksgiving Dinner Baskets -- Please Donate! -- 150. That’s double the number of MCPS families the Town, B-CC High School and the Lawton Center will be helping this year with our annual Thanksgiving Dinner Baskets.  We need your help in filling these baskets with a wonderful holiday meal for families with very limited resources in the county.  Many of these families are still experiencing very difficult challenges brought on by August’s devastating fire in Silver Spring.

Through November 18, please drop off a check payable to the YMCA - YFS or gift food cards from Giant or Safeway to the Town Office, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or to Georgia Guhin, 4006 Rosemary Street.  $25 purchases a turkey.  $50 purchases the groceries.  $75 purchases an entire Thanksgiving dinner.  All donations, which are tax-deductible, are welcome.

Thank you from the Town’s Community Relations Committee.  Click here to view the Town flyer.

Winter Outwear Clothing Drive -- November 1, 2016 - January 31, 2017. The Town’s Community Relations Committee, working with the Lawton Community Center, is collecting clean, gently-used or never used warm coats, gloves, mittens, scarves, hats, sweaters, pants, and socks to donate to local charities serving those in need.  Clothing boxes for your donations are in the Town Hall (Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and the Lawton Community Center (Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday until 5 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.)

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is managing a series of utility relocations on behalf of Montgomery County in preparation for construction of a new, ADA accessible Bethesda Metrorail Station South Entrance located at the intersection of Elm Street and Wisconsin Avenue. The Bethesda Metro South entrance will eventually connect to MTA’s Purple Line Bethesda station. Funded by the County, and ultimately owned and operated by Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Metro (WMATA), these utility relocations represent the first stage of approximately six years of coordinated construction in the area of the Bethesda Metrorail Station South Entrance.

On Saturday, November 12 and Sunday, November 13, 2016, work will take place between 7am and 5:30pm which will require double lane closures on both Northbound and Southbound Wisconsin Avenue between MD 410 (East-West Highway) and MD 191 (Bradley Boulevard).

The notification of work as well as updates will be posted on the MTA website at www.mta.maryland.gov/transit-projects throughout the duration of the utility relocation process.

Questions related to utility relocation can be directed to utilityinfo@mtatdd.com or the MTA Bethesda Utility Relocation voice mailbox at 443-278-7210.

Utility Work Update --

Washington Gas and WSSC are not working tomorrow Friday, November 11.

Next week, WSSC will be doing some house re-connections on Stanford Street west of Rosemary Circle and will be doing some water testing in areas where new water mains have been installed.

Washington Gas will continue to make individual house connections to the newly installed mains, and will continue to work on Stanford Street west of Oakridge Avenue.

On Tuesday of next week, the Washington Gas paving contractor is scheduled to begin replacing the temporary asphalt that is back-filled into the excavated trenches with the permanent base asphalt.  This will provide a solid foundation for the roadways in anticipation of final repaving to be done at a later date.  This work will require parking restrictions to be in place and will necessitate temporary road and intersection closures as the crews work through the Town.

Thank you for your continued patience during the ongoing utility work. Please contact the Town Office at townoffice@townofchevychase.org or 301-654-7144 if you have any questions.
