Town Council Work Session on County Attainable Housing Strategies, 6 p.m.

On March 13th at 6 p.m., the Town Council will convene via Zoom for a work session to delve into the County Planning Department's Attainable Housing Strategies Initiative (AHSI). This session aims to prepare for Mayor Lane's testimony during the County Planning Board's listening sessions on March 21st.

Through AHSI, the Council Council has directed Planning staff to identify ways to grow housing supply and expand housing choices throughout the county, to meet projected household growth, and to expand homeownership opportunities.

Residents who want to offer input to the Town Council can email townoffice@townofchevychase.org. Also, residents keen to offer input to the Planning Board can register to provide live comments during the Planning Board's March 21st listening sessions, either in-person or virtually through Microsoft Teams. Additionally, individuals have the option to submit written feedback to the Planning Board by emailing mcp-chair@mncppc-mc.org.

Join us for a free kids' St. Patrick's Day scavenger hunt at the Lawton Center playground on Sunday, March 17 at 3:30 pm. The scavenger hunt will be geared towards wee ones ages 1-6, but all ages are welcome. There will be snacks and prizes! Shamrocks, leprechauns, pots of gold, shenanigans!

Native Canopy & Street Tree Plantings

The Town is preparing its spring tree planting list. If you have a spot in your yard suitable for a canopy tree, you may want to take advantage of the Town’s Native Canopy Tree Planting program. Under this program, the Town will purchase and install a canopy tree on your property at no cost to you. Residents are responsible for the long-term care of the tree once installed. You may request a native canopy tree here.

You also may request to have a tree planted along the street in front of your home.  The Town prefers to plant canopy trees when possible.  These public trees are maintained by the Town.  You may request a street tree here.

Do Your Part for our Town: Pick Up After Your Dog

While we understand that cleaning up after your dog might not be the most pleasant task, it's crucial for the well-being of our neighborhood. Children often play in our front yards, and our neighbors regularly walk past our homes. Leftover dog waste poses a slipping hazard and can lead to illnesses.

We strongly encourage you, and anyone walking your dog, to diligently clean up after them and utilize the conveniently located Dogipot stations across Town to dispose of the waste.  A map of the Dogipot stations is available at bit.ly/TOCCDogiPots. Let's all do our part in keeping our community pristine and safe for everyone.

Residents are encouraged to connect with fellow residents through the private Town Neighbors listserv.
