Town Testimony on Attainable Housing Strategies Initiative On March 21, Mayor Lane testified before the Montgomery County Planning Board on the Planning Department's Attainable Housing Strategies Initiative. This initiative identifies ways to grow housing supply and expand housing choices throughout the county, meet projected household growth, and expand homeownership opportunities for all. A copy of Mayor Lane's testimony is available here.
The Planning Board has scheduled a series of public work sessions this spring to consider community feedback and add its comments to the project’s recommendations. After the work sessions are completed, the Planning Board will send a detailed report with its official recommendations on the initiative to the County Council by early summer 2024.

Go-Electric EcoFest, April 28 Join the Climate and Environment Committee on Sunday, April 28 from 12 to 3 p.m. in the Town Hall for its first Go-Electric EcoFest, designed to help residents learn about options for electrifying their home to reduce their use of fossil fuel…and about government subsidies to make those changes more affordable. The program will have three elements:
- Listen to an “electrifying” and informative overview of residential electrification options: solar energy, heat pump HVAC and water heaters, electric clothes dryers, induction cooking, electric vehicles and chargers – plus how to take advantage of subsidies.
- Learn more about these electrification opportunities at information tables where you can “Ask an Expert.”
- Visit homes of Town residents to see climate-friendly technologies such as rooftop solar, geothermal energy, heat pumps and more.
*** Enjoy climate-friendly food! *** Kids’ activities will be available in the Lawton Center during the presentation so parents can actually pay attention! To find out more, to RSVP for the event (optional but helpful for planners), and to sign up for the home visits, go to bit.ly/TOCCEcoFest or scan the QR code above.

TOCC Book Club, April 29 Join us to discuss Ministry for the Future by Kim Stanly Robinson on Monday, April 29 at 7:00 pm in the Town Hall. It is a “cli-fi” story, about how climate change will affect us all. Its setting is not a desolate, post-apocalyptic world, but a future that is almost upon us, treated with humor and optimism. Chosen by Barack Obama as one of his favorite books of the year. All residents are welcome to this Community Relations Committee event.

Native & Street Tree Plantings The Town is preparing its spring tree planting list. If you have a spot in your yard suitable for a tree, you may want to take advantage of the Town’s Native Tree Planting program. Under this program, the Town will purchase and install a tree on your property at no cost to you. Residents are responsible for the long-term care of the tree once installed. You may request a native tree here.
You also may request to have a tree planted along the street in front of your home. These public trees are maintained by the Town. You may request a street tree here.

If Your Dog Poops but Nobody is Watching, You Still Need to Pick It Up!! Attention all residents, dog walkers, and teens: Let's keep our community clean and enjoyable for everyone by picking up after our furry friends, especially along sidewalks and the grass in front of homes. Children often play in front yards and neighbors regularly walk along the sidewalks. Leftover dog waste poses a slipping hazard and can lead to illnesses. Remember, it only takes a moment to scoop the poop and deposit the waste into one of our many Dogipot stations, but it makes a big difference in keeping our sidewalks and parks pleasant for all.
A map of the Dogipot stations is available at bit.ly/TOCCDogiPots. Let's all do our part in keeping our community pristine and safe for everyone. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated! .

A Message from the Public Services CommitteeHelp Control Speeding on Town Streets The Public Services Committee (PSC) is highlighting two ways for Town residents to support our efforts to control speeding on our streets:
- Residents of a block may request the installation of a speed hump, LED enhanced “Stop” sign, Radar Speed Board, or other traffic control installations. Each measure has its own policy and restrictions which are outlined at bit.ly/TOCCStreets.
- The Town has purchased a mobile radar speed trailer that can be placed around Town. The trailer is relocated frequently. Please contact the Town Office to have the trailer placed on your street. Staff will evaluate the feasibility of placement.
Additionally, a speed camera has been installed on Bradley Lane (between Connecticut Ave and Wisconsin Ave). The decision to install a speed camera generally starts with residents requesting a mobile radar to gather data on speeding followed by a request to the PSC to review the data. The PSC sends its recommendation to the Town Council that can then engage with the appropriate county authorities.
