At its July 16 meeting, the Town Council adopted an ordinance to amend the Town’s noise control regulations by modifying the times when gas-powered and electric or battery-powered landscaping equipment may be used in the Town. The ordinance, which becomes effective on September 1, was considered and approved by the Council in response to numerous complaints from residents about leaf blower noise.
As a result of the amendments, the permissible time frame for the operation of gas-powered leaf blowers will be reduced by one hour in both the mornings and evenings on weekdays. As an incentive to contractors and property owners to make the switch to more environmentally-friendly equipment, electric and battery-powered landscape equipment will be allowed to be operated one hour earlier and one hour later on weekdays.
A table summarizing the Town’s new noise control regulations is below. The complete ordinance can be found here. If you have any questions, please contact the Town Office at townoffice@townofchevychase.org or 301-654-7144.
