Private Canopy Tree Maintenance Program Application

  1. Terms
    • Program participants must be a resident or homeowner in the Town of Chevy Chase.
    • Maintenance work includes pruning and cabling of canopy trees. A canopy tree is defined as a tree with a trunk that measures at least twenty four (24) inches in circumference at four and one-half (4 ½) feet above ground.
    • All maintenance work performed under this program should be recommended in a Consulting Arborist Report completed in the 12-month period prior to the completion of the maintenance work.  All work will be reviewed by the Town arborist before reimbursement is approved.
    • The Program will reimburse a resident or homeowner 75% of the costs associated with eligible tree maintenance activities, up to a maximum of $1,000 per residence, per fiscal year (July 1-June 30).
    • The maintenance must be performed by a Maryland licensed tree expert.
    • The undersigned is responsible for submitting to the Town this completed application and a copy of the bill for services rendered and proof of payment. The bill for services must identify the species and trunk circumference at four and a half (4 ½) feet above ground for each tree on which maintenance work has been performed. Requests for reimbursement must be made within 180 days of the completion of the maintenance work.
    • The Town reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to approve or deny any request for reimbursement.
    • The Town may require additional information or documentation as deemed necessary to adequately assess an application for reimbursement.
    • The undersigned agrees that the site of tree maintenance shall be subject to inspection by Town officials at any time to verify completion of work.
  2. Agreement & Release*

    The undersigned hereby understands and agrees to all terms and conditions of the Town’s Private Canopy Tree Maintenance Program. The undersigned understands that, pursuant to the Program, the Town will reimburse a resident for 75% of the costs associated with tree maintenance, up to a maximum of $1,000 per residence, per fiscal year. In making the Town’s program available to residents and paying for a portion of the services described above, the undersigned further understands and agrees that the Town does not guarantee or accept responsibility for any damages, liabilities, advice, representations, quality of work, or other information or opinions provided by the contractor or the Consulting Arborist.

    If approved, the undersigned acknowledges that reimbursement may take up to eight (8) weeks from the date an invoice is submitted to the Town.

    In consideration for making the Private Canopy Tree Maintenance Program available and providing financial assistance thereunder, the undersigned hereby certifies and agrees that you (a) have read this document in its entirety, and (b) understand and agree that the Town will not be responsible for the work of your chosen contractor, (c) agree to abide by all of the terms and agreements of the Program, and (d) hereby release, indemnify and hold harmless the Town and all of its officers, employees, contractors, and agents from all suits, actions, damages, and costs which may result from the work, or other information or opinions, provided by the contractor or the Consulting Arborist to the undersigned or the undersigned’s agents.
